The bud is made from four petals folded inward and bound at the base so it stays closed. The leaves curve away from the pin, which keeps the piece from looking like a lollipop.

Care
Keep the piece dry and out of direct sun. Put perfume and hairspray on before the piece goes in, not after. Store it flat in its box; copper wire keeps its shape, but silk will hold a fold if it is crushed.
